Blang on Blang
Star–Crossed Covers
We are delighted to present this 12 track compilation to mark 20 years of being a label! The LP comes on cherry red vinyl, with inner sleeve notes backing some poster-worthy artwork, and features twelve Blang acts lovingly reinterpreting songs by other acts from the back catalogue. It's playful, abrasive, heartfelt, funny, dramatic; with every song somehow sounding like it was written by the interpreter.
The record kicks off with Parisians punks Les Bécasses taking a torch to outsider pop icons The Awkward Silences' 'Getting Ready For My Life To Begin' and ends with the lo-fi warmth of New York King of antifolk Jeffrey Lewis' interpretation of New York antifolk Prince Seth Faergolzia's charming 'Garbage Night'; with Hitchin' country trash 3-piece Trailer Crash channelling the pure creepiness of masters of the sinister David Cronenberg's Wife's 'You Should Have Closed The Curtains'; and the finest purveyors of the so-called South London scene, Meatraffle, bringing a melancholy trumpet-tinged touch to gig singalong favourite 'Suicidal in a Rural Town' by more recent signing, disco dancefloor flaneur, Pink Eye Club; plus more, in between.
