Debut single release from The 53. Guitar/drums duo from London, who play old school garage style rock with all the lo-fi rough edges one would expect from a band that is early in their career. The guitar is fuzzy, the drums are propulsive on the toms, while the songs have a clear melodic flow and hooks that are simultaneously catchy and raw. The overall ruggedness of the production and presentation helps balance the sweetly tuneful nature of the music. 'Spider Girls' is a true story about a girl gang from Santiago, who scale high-rise blocks, to rob apartments, to buy cool clothes. B-side, 'Imaginary War', tells the tale of a Japanese Lieutenant who carried on fighting years after the end of WW2.
