Second collaborative album by legendary UK dub producer Adrian Sherwood and Bristol dubstep don Rob Ellis aka Pinch. The follow-up to 2015’s critically acclaimed Late Night Endless. Features guest appearances from Lee “Scratch” Perry, Martin Duffy (Primal Scream), Taz (Def Jam) and Skip McDonald (The Sugarhill Gang, Tackhead, Little Axe).
From the jittery funk of “Roll Call” to the industrial drone of “Charger”, the percussive energy of “Juggling Act” to the cosmic wisdom of the Lee Perry voiced “Lies”, the furious synth-grime of “Gun Law” to a languid cover of Ryuichi Sakamoto’s “Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence”, this is a diverse yet cohesive work, the two producer’s ability to blend and subvert each other’s signature sounds more fully realised than ever before. Once again a collaborative release between the two seminal and much-loved labels the artists respectively run, On-U Sound and Tectonic, this is an album tooled equally for the dancefloor and home listening, the bodyblow of the sound system stack and the intimacy of headphone meditation.
Of the making of this album, Pinch comments: “Having spent around five years working together, our work flow has developed and improved considerably, and we both feel that the music we're making now is something neither of us could or would do alone. Adrian has amassed a bunch of new (old) studio equipment over the last couple of years too, so there's been a lot more stuff to play about with, and that's expressed in some of the directions the tracks go in. I hope it resonates with listeners as much as it does with us.” Sherwood concurs: “I'm really proud of Man Vs. Sofa - Pinch and I have developed a proper great sound together and this is a real step forward.”
