NUDIBRANCH Presents - Resin. Having previously released on Tru Thoughts and Brownswood Records, this is the next step in the evolution of musician-producer Ratomagoson’s unique sound.
Featured are three original tracks and a remix by Wah-Wah 45 and Forgot Record’s affiliate Hoffy. Infectious guitars, resonant bass and latin percussion are weaved with cuts of funk drums from the MPC, melting the boundaries between sampled and recorded music.
Resin extracts the essence of Afrobeat, pleasing guitar melodies are combined with recycled drum samples from a shelved studio recording. The groove comes alive as the motifs and sonics begin to talk and interact, call and respond.
Poolside is a sonic trip with flavours of dub and funk featuring saxophonist Sebastián López. Rato leads with his signature perc cuts and bass. Enigmatic synths and wah-guitars give way to euphoric washes, Lopez’ sax melts in and out of reality.
Choose is a comment on the increasing pressure of choices in life. Behind the four to the floor beat, noir-esque guitars and mysterious filtered vocals, is Rato’s minimalist philosophy on limiting compositional choices by using less equipment.
Hoffy reforms the title track Resin into a subtle club version. Salivating textures from percussion and field recordings fill in the space between driving, woody drums and harmonic guitar chops.
