Saxophonist Archie Shepp’s iconic live performance at the 1970 Juan-les-Pins Jazz Festival is reissued as a special 2-LP set for its 55th anniversary. Originally released as two albums on BYG/Actuel, each disc features an extended piece split into two parts. Backed by The Full Moon Ensemble, including Clifford Thornton and Alan Shorter, Shepp delivers a relentless, avantgarde performance critiquing global injustice. This reissue, remastered with new liner notes, highlights Shepp’s fiery creativity, political impact, and enduring influence on the evolution of jazz.
This Deluxe 2-LP package has the original restored cover artwork and rare archival photos from the 1970 Antibes performance. Plus newly commissioned essays on Shepp’s legacy by author and music journalist Kevin Le Gendre. The Vinyl has been out of print and completely unavailable for 55 years. The recording is restored and remastered from the Original Master Tapes. Double vinyl package includes: OBI side strip, Gatefold album jacket with two pockets, two printed inner sleeves and Orange and Brown colour vinyl.
