Pond Life

Jack Cooper and Tara Cunningham are an improvising duo whose music is largely informed by a shared approach to the guitar; wide open chords, hazy tone and obtuse melody.

Having played alongside each other in a quartet with Heather Roche and Dominic Lash and then most recently in Cooper’s group Modern Nature; their debut album, ‘Pond Life’ will be released on Mossy Tapes in January 2025.

‘Pond Life’ celebrates both the sonic potential of clean, un-effected guitar, as well as the naive, exploratory nature of responding to musical parameters in tandem. Notes, pitches and melody swirl around, breaching for air before diving below into the abyss.

Bringing to mind the guitar improvisations of Taku Sugimoto; Pond Life’s ten tracks skate between the expansiveness of free improvisation and warm tonal meditations.
