“WHERE WERE YOU IN 3000 BC?” – The Battle Of The Beanfield 40th Anniversary Pendant

On 1st June 1985, 1300 police officers forcefully blockaded 600 travellers, revellers, and Druids from attending the annual Stonehenge Free Festival and Summer Solstice ceremony.

Without jurisdiction, 537 people were brutally arrested. With impunity, 16 were hospitalised, women and children were terrorised, and traveller homes were destroyed. The following year, the Public Order Act 1986 was introduced enabling greater powers to shutdown ‘unlawful assemblies’. Over the following 15 years, the Stonehenge site was blockaded from even religious ceremonies.

The pendant is a stubborn smile at authority for those who see Stonehenge as a public space for celebration, as well as a salute to the heroic free party movement that continued to this day.

A question to the Government, The National Trust, English Heritage, and The Somerset Avon and Wiltshire Police - “Where the were you in 3000 BC?” the OG summer of love.
